Free skin cancer screening scheduled for January 26 | The Salina Post

SRHCVerticalLogo_colorJust because it?s cold outside doesn?t mean you?re not at risk from sun?s damaging ultraviolet rays. Snow on the ground can actually increase your exposure. In light of this the Tammy Walker Cancer Center at Salina Regional Health Center is hosting a free skin cancer screening clinic Saturday, January 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Fortunately, most skin cancers, including melanoma, are curable if detected early. About 1 million new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed each year in the United States, making it the most common type of cancer found.

Each person should look over his or her entire body ? including back, scalp, soles of feet, between toes and even palms of hands ? for changes in shape, size, color or texture of moles and other unusual skin changes. Liberal use of sunscreen and limiting exposure to sun are the best defenses against skin cancer.

Appointments for the clinic are required by calling?(785) 452-4848?and space is limited. Just come to the Cancer Center, 511 S. Santa Fe, during your allotted time. Doctors from the Smoky Hill Family Medicine Residency Program and the Heartland Dermatology will evaluate patients.
